Divide the hour into blocks
a. 10 min of teaching on prayer
b. 10 min of discussing the needs of that country or people group (do not try to pray for the whole world in 1 hour- better to choose one country or at least one part of the world and pray more specifically and more effectively for that hour)
c. 15 min of praying in a large group
c.i. You can have 3 people stand in the middle at a time, representing 3 different needs (pastors, Christians, students, unbelievers, children, missionaries, etc) and have students lay hands on each student in the middle, explain that the 3 are “standing in the gap” (3 different students lead in prayer for each one, one at a time- 2 min each) Switch 2 times (that’s 12 min)
c.ii. Between the two sets of 3 students, ask students if there was anything impressed upon their heart during that time of prayer, then speak it out or pray it out! Let the Spirit lead you and pray through you!
c.iii. So in 15 min, you effectively prayed for more than 6 different needs!
d. 5 min of praise (For what he has done and what he is going to do!) (Make it participatory, let each student speak out 1 sentence of praise or just let whoever wants to speak something out do so).
e. 10 min of praying in small groups (give each group one need to pray for, and encourage every student in every group to lead out in prayer).
f. 5 min back in the large group reporting and sharing anything significant that came up as you prayed in small groups
g. 5 min of praying and praising in a large group
h. If you want to go longer than an hour, you could easily extend any of these, you could also:
h.i. Pray in corners (have a student leader in each corner praying for one need, and have small groups of students rotate to a different corner every 3-4 min.)
h.ii. Pray in partners
h.iii. Use objects in the room to inspire you (or go to different parts of the room to pray for different things, just be creative and keep changing it up every 10 min to keep you moving and engaged)
h.iv. Take time to be silent and journal what the Lord speaks, then give students the opportunity to share and pray those things out.
