Chi Alpha’s outreach to international students has changed its name from ISFM to XAi--Chi
Alpha internationals. The dream is the same, to reach the nations by touching the nations
among us, to change a life by making one more friend and to disciple future world leaders
by discipling international students.
How might XAi be different? To be XA is to be XAi. If you are a chartered XA group you are
a chartered XAi group. Reaching international students on campus is not for a select few
who have special talents or a deep love for internationals. Reaching internationals is for
each of us. God will give us the deep love and increase our ability to be successful as we
step out in faith to make one more friend, one more disciple and one more leader.
The question I pose to each of you leaders, “Is the ‘i’ in you?” Are there international
students on your campus? in your ministry? on your leadership team? in your district?
What are you going to do now, and in the future, to insure the “i” is in all of us?
The 3 components (3 i’s) of an XAi group are informed, intentional, and inter-relational.
Internationals are a unique and strategic group on your campus. Become INFORMED
about them. Internationals are amazing future leaders of the world, but they cannot easily
connect with your Chi Alpha group unless you are very INTENTIONAL in your efforts to
relate to them. As you love internationals, be sure to help them build INTER-RELATIONAL
bridges beyond their college experience. As they re-enter their home culture or transition
to the workplace in the U.S., how can you help them connect with Christians wherever they
go? If your group is informed about internationals on your campus, is intentional in relating
to them, and is an inter-relational bridge-builder to their next location after college...then
the “i” is in you!
XAi has developed a 5 stage rubric to help XA groups identify where they are in regards to
reaching international students and to strategically grow to the next level.
The 2012 Expeditions magazine will feature a flip magazine introducing and highlighting
XAi and the concept of “every student welcomes.”
