Check out Expeditions 2011 (the magazine) for a fun scavenger hunt that you can do
with your small group to get the I in you!
The first five are ways to make an international friend, the second five are fun,
cultural and hospitable things that you can do once you have made an international
friend. Love and friendship will open the door to the gospel. When the time is right,
don’t be afraid to ask if your friend wants to study the bible and learn about Jesus.
You could then read through one of the gospels together or invite them to chi alpha,
etc.
1 Make an International friend in one of your classes (or in the library) by asking if they want to study together.
2 Next time you see an international student walking to or from the grocery store, ask if they want a ride.
3 Go to the next international student hosted event on your campus and make an international friend!
4 Connect with your school’s English Language Institute and volunteer to be a conversation partner. If your school does not have one, then go to your
department and ask if there is an International student struggling with
English that a professor would like to recommend and connect the two ofyou.
5 Find out where the international dorm is and if they have a lobby where students hang out, play games, etc. Go and see what happens! Make a friend!
6 Invite one of your International friends over to have a cultural exchange cooking night (you pick a dish from their country that you want to learn to
make and they pick an American dish that they want to learn to make).
7 Have a karaoke party and learn some of their songs while you teach them some of our songs.
8 Invite your international friend over for Thanksgiving, Christmas or another holiday.
9 Invite your international friend to a football game or concert other cultural events that they might never have experienced before.
0 Let your international friend know that you are available to help them if theyneed help with a ride to walmart or editing a paper, or calling their landlord
or phone service company, etc.
